Click Here for the Official Discord Client Download What exactly is Discord? Discord is a text and voice based chat program. It's free and allows people from all over the world to chat in multiple ways. For those who have only ever used chatboxes, IRC, Skype, or other types of messaging programs, imagine Skype and one of those basic text programs had the perfect baby. That is Discord. How do I join? You can either click the link on the forum which will take you directly to the AMVCentral discord channel in-browser, or you can download the Discord client (either mobile or on the computer) and connect to the channel using this link. https://discord.gg/0u4lRXyXlwPwObPK "You must verify your identity by phone before you can send messages in this server" This is due to the verification level set on the server. This is to prevent bots and spam accounts from mass-joining the server. How does it work? You can chat in any text channel by simply selecting the channel on the left that you wish to go into and typing into the message box below. There are multiple text channels to choose from, all with a different purpose and they are listed with a # before the name. Such as #general-amv, #amv-help, etc. There are also Voice Channels (scroll down on the left) that you can hop into at anytime. Voice channels are listed with small arrows like > instead of hashtags. To join a Voice Channel, select the channel that you want to join and that's it! Boom! You're automatically connected without the need for a host or anything! If you're just to Skype, this is very much like a conference call that people can join and leave freely, without the need for a host. What if I don't want to chat with everyone? Can I message people one on one? Yes. You can add friends and message them in private on Discord. You can even have private voice calls that are not part of the main channel and can only be joined by people that you invite. One of the text channels I like chatting in is gone. What happened to it? Discord is a chat program that can be easily modified at any time. If we see a specific channel is not being used or if a new one is needed, we may remove/add channels at any time. If you feel that a channel should not have been removed or one is needed, please contact an Op. What's an Op? Who do I go to if there is a problem? An Op is someone in the Discord channel with Authority. These are the people in charge with the ability to kick, ban, and make alterations if needed. Demi-Ops also have power but not as much as an Op. If you have a problem, talk to a Demi and if they're not able to resolve it, you or the Demi can forward the issue to an Op. I've got this really cool BOT that I want to add to the chat. My friends on my other Discord love it! Please do not add bots to the chat. Adding bots can and will result in kicks and bans. Sooo....Freedom of Speech? While you're welcome to curse to your heart's content, hate speech will not be tolerated. Fine. How about porn? Please try to keep it SFW. There are editors as young as 13+ in the chat and while dirty humor is always a good time, linking hentai or sexual imagery/content isn't OK. Just private message Shui instead. You two will have a great time. There is a conversation going on but I have something else I really want to talk about. Please try to refrain from taking the conversation off track. If there is a conversation and you just feel the need to share your life story about how you live in Japan or really love weed, that can be considered spamming. Same with constantly promoting your own videos, YouTube channel, etc. Conversations flow and change at logical times. If you see a chat has slowed down or there is a break in the conversation, then feel free to change it up! Think about it just like you were talking with a big group of people in person. You wouldn't interrupt or talk over them, you would follow the flow and help it evolve naturally. If you have more questions, please post them down below to potentially be added to the FAQ!
